New Delhi: Global NCAP has published crash test ratings for the Volkswagen Taigun and Škoda Kushaq. Both SUVs have been tested under the more demanding requirements of the Global NCAP crash tests for India. The new VW Taigun and Škoda Kushaq received the highest ratings for the safety of adults and children.
The VW Taigun and Skoda Kushaq are based on the same MQB AO IN platform and are produced at the same plant. The new SUV received 5 stars for adult protection and five stars for child occupant protection, becoming the first ever models to achieve five stars for both adults and children.
Global NCAP’s updated crash test protocols evaluate frontal and side impact protection for all models tested, ESC and pedestrian protection for the side impact bar protection rating.
Global NCAP tested basic SUV models that are equipped with ESC (Electronic Stability Program) as standard. The new SUV demonstrated a stable structure in a frontal impact, reasonably good protection for adult occupants and marginal to good protection in a side impact. Full protection for child passengers in the event of a frontal and side impact.
The VW Taigun and Škoda Kushaq scored 29.64 points out of a total of 34 in the adult protection test. In child protection tests, the SUV performs exceptionally well, scoring 42 points out of a total of 49 points.
In a frontal impact, head and neck protection for the driver and front passenger was found to be good. It offers sufficient and good chest protection for the driver and passenger. The driver’s passenger’s knees showed good protection.
Offers marginal or adequate and good shin protection for the driver and front passenger. Legroom was rated as stable. The bodywork was found to be stable and capable of withstanding further loading.
In the side impact test, the new Taigun & Kushaq offers good protection for the head, abdomen and pelvis and edge protection for the chest. In the event of a side impact to a pillar, the head airbags meet the installation requirements.
The side airbags for head protection offer good protection for the head and pelvis and sufficient protection for the abdomen and marginal protection for the chest. The ESC meets the equipment requirements and the test performance was acceptable according to the latest Global NCAP requirements.
CHILD PROTECTION TEST VW TAIGUN, SKODA KUSHAQ
In a frontal impact, the child seat for the 3-year-old child was installed facing the direction of travel using the i-Size anchorage and support leg. In the impact test, it was able to prevent exposure of the head in a frontal impact and offered full protection.
Similarly, the 18-month child seat was installed in a rear-facing position using the i-Size anchorage and support leg. It was able to prevent head exposure during a frontal impact and offer full protection. In a side impact, both CRSs offered full side impact protection. The car is supplied with 3 point belts on all seats as standard in all versions.
