In a recent Instagram post by @gentlemanandmotorcycles.co a new version of the Royal Enfield Interceptor was spotted testing. The bike was surprisingly under no camouflage. And looked quite similar as that of the current Interceptor. The riding triangle of the bike is quite similar to the current model as well.
While there have been no talks of a new facelift for the 650cc interceptor. Its possible that the new bike might be an Royal Enfield Interceptor with a 750 cc parallel twin engine on a test. The 750 cc parallel twin engine would supposedly generate around 55 BHP of peak power along with a peak torque of around 60 nm. The bike would have a 6 speed transmission hooked to the engine along with slipper clutch functionalities.
New Features Of The Bike
The new bike would have a digital instrument cluster along with dual discs upfront that would allow the vehicle to have better braking performance. The new bikes gets a fresh new tail light setup at the rear. The tail lights as well as the indicators at the rear are round in shape. The bike might also have new alloy wheel designs that would increase the appeal of the bike.
The Weight Issue
While Bike manufacturers around the world have been continually working to make lighter vehicles, while the weight of the royal Enfield bikes keeps on rising. The 650 parallel twin engine in the interceptor has taken its weight to around 400kg’s. With the new engine the weight of the new bike might further increase. Unladen weight of the bikes always decreases the performance and hence Royal Enfield should work on decreasing the weight of the new bikes.
Interceptor 750 Suspension Changes
If this is the new 750cc bike, Royal Enfield would have to bring in more changes to the suspension geometry. With the increasing weight manufacturers have to change the rebound and compression of their suspension setup. Often Royal Enfield has favored a softer suspension setup that allows the bike to be comfortable on extensive rides rather than a sharper suspension setup that would be better around the race tracks. Would the 750cc receive the same treatment ? only time would tell
Royal Enfield has recognized its emerging as well as evolved markets. And it would be fair to say that it proceeds to fulfill a dual purpose for the different demand subsets. A new mid size bike for emerging markets, and a alternative to compete against other bikes in evolved markets. This would help the brand combat the increasing grasp of Triumph and Harley Davidson in the overseas market as well.
