In an interesting development, JLR (Jaguar & Land Rover) has opted to import CKD (Completely Knocked Down) kits of their flagship SUVs, the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport, into India. These SUVs will now be locally assembled, resulting in significantly lower taxes and reducing the ex-showroom price by up to Rs. 56 lakh.
Jaguar Land Rover has announced that the new Ranger Rover and the Range Rover Sport will be produced at Tata Motors’ Pune Plant in India.

Range Rover Available At Discounted Prices
Few people in India can afford a full-size Range Rover, but for those who can, the deal has just become much more attractive. Land Rover will now locally assemble the Range Rover using CKD kits at JLR’s Chakan manufacturing facility near Pune. The Range Rover Sport will also undergo the same process. This change results in a price drop of up to Rs. 56 lakh (ex-showroom) for the full-size Range Rover and Rs. 29 lakh (ex-showroom) for the Range Rover Sport. These models will now join the Range Rover Velar and Range Rover Evoque in JLR’s locally assembled vehicle lineup.
Another notable SUV from JLR Group that is locally manufactured is the Jaguar F-Pace. However, not all variants of the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport will be assembled locally. For the full-size Range Rover, only the 3.0L Petrol LWB Autobiography and 3.0L Diesel LWB HSE variants will be assembled in India. For the Range Rover Sport, only the 3.0L Petrol Dynamic SE and 3.0L Diesel Dynamic SE variants will be assembled locally. Other variants for both models will continue to be imported as CBUs (Completely Built Units) from JLR’s Solihull facility in the UK.
Deliveries of the locally assembled Range Rover Sport will begin on August 16th, and these vehicles will be showcased at Land Rover House in Alibaug, Maharashtra. The locally assembled full-size Range Rover is also expected to be displayed there, although the delivery timeline for this model is yet to be announced.
