Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Suzuki Motor Plant in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, on Tuesday to inaugurate the localized production of hybrid battery electrodes and flag off exports of Maruti Suzuki’s first global battery electric vehicle, the e-Vitara, to more than 100 countries.
The e-Vitara was first unveiled in India in January 2025 at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo. With an annual production capacity of 2.6 million units across four Indian plants, the company exported over 3.32 lakh vehicles and sold 19.01 lakh units in the domestic market in FY25 alone. Beyond the e-Vitara, models like the Suzuki Fronx, Jimny, and others have also gained significant prominence in international markets.
The e-Vitara will compete against the likes of the Hyundai Creta Electric. While the e-Vitara offers a rear-wheel-drive module in select trim levels, the Hyundai Creta does not provide either RWD or AWD options. According to an earlier leak reported by Auto BHP, the car will feature a 75 kWh battery pack, with AWD capability reserved for the Empowered trim. In addition, the SUV will get a 12.3-inch free-standing screen along with ADAS Level 2 safety features.

Suzuki e-Vitara
The e-Vitara is Suzuki’s first electric vehicle, and it’s clear the company has left no stone unturned to make it a strong contender for buyers. The SUV offers ventilated seats, flexible boot space, and a host of modern features.
Suzuki has also introduced its new HEARTECT-e platform, a ground-up design specifically for EVs, combining innovation, efficiency, and performance. The e-Vitara is powered by a 61 kWh Lithium-ion battery, tested for durability across extreme temperatures ranging from -30 °C to 60 °C, and delivers an estimated range of around 500 km. the expected prices have beenr deatiled in teh table below.
Hyundai Creta EV
The Hyundai Creta EV is another strong competitor in the segment. It will be offered with 42 kWh and 51.4 kWh battery options, boasting a claimed range of up to 473 km. Compared to the Tata Harrier EV, however, the Creta EV misses out on several drive features and off-road capabilities, making it more of a conventional subcompact SUV. The official battery specifications of the Harrier EV are yet to be revealed.
