New Delhi: EV start-up Simple Energy has announced that deliveries of its ONE electric scooter have been pushed back again to the first quarter of 2023. This is now the third delay Simple Energy has announced following its big launch on August 15, 2021. The promised deliveries were initially pushed back from December 2021 to June 2022 and then June to September.

Simple Energy says the reason for this latest supply delay is new battery safety guidelines issued by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). The company says the delay will allow them to ensure its ONE electric scooter meets new safety standards.

It’s worth noting that the company cited safety reasons for its earlier delay, which was announced in May 2022. At the time, the company said: “In light of safety standards and recent incidents in the EV industry, Simple has taken note of the call to delay ONE deliveries “. The company attributed the initial delay to supply chain issues.

When we rode the ONE in June of this year, we reported that while the scooter had potential, it was still a little rough around the edges and didn’t look production-ready. Click here to read our Simple Energy ONE review.

The ONE’s battery arrangement consists of both fixed and removable components, and the combined capacity is a substantial 4.8kWh, which is said to give it a real-world range of 203km in Eco mode.

The electric scooter is powered by a motor that has a peak power of 8.5 kW (continuous power is 4.5 kW) and a rated torque of 72 Nm. Whether the company can stick to the original promised price after all this remains to be seen.
