Although Nissan and Honda have put their formal merger on hold, a slew of new reports have suggested that both the brands might be analyzing the potential of getting involved in the manufacturing process of performance icons for the Nissan GT-R and Honda NSX While both the brands have not revealed any details about the merger, such developments could be a dream come true for the users. The amalgamation of the unique engineering philosophies of both the brands would lead to distinct enthusiast vehicles.
A report by Drive.com led to the spread of such rumors, as per the report Nissan North America’s SVP and chief planning officer Ponz Pandikuthira encouraged such discussions in a conversation at the 2025 New York Motor Show- His zeal towards the co development of next generation GT-R and NSX was pretty apparent. He stressed that even if such a arrangement was to be executed both the vehicles would maintain the uniqueness of the vehicles and the products that reach the production surmise would be much more than rebadged versions rather they would be vehicles that would be produced; following the extensive brand characteristics.
Future Powertrains
Pandikuthira further spoke about how the last gen NSX had been discontinued; it is possible that the brand might shift focus to an all-electric NSX type model. Beyond that he clarified that the upcoming R36 GT-R would be a hybrid and would take on its European rivals like the Porsche 911.
He further elucidated that the Aston Martin and Mercedes relationship is a profound example of two manufacturers sharing technologies while remaining to be separate brands. Although the partnership to develop GTR and NSX is not finalized yet, such new relations might be finalized soon in the future.
