Visakhapatnam's new traffic rule of Helmet compulsion

Visakhapatnam Traffic Rule: If you ride daily on a two-wheeler, here is a piece of information for you, From September 1, Visakhapatnam a metropolitan city in Andhra Pradesh is all set to implement a new rule, wherein both riders and passengers of scooters and motorcycles have to wear helmets. This move comes right after a High Court order verdict of reducing road accidents in the city.

Visakhapatnam Enforces Mandatory Helmet Rule

Wearing helmets is mandatory for two-wheeler passengers according to the Motor Vehicle Act, though this rule is overlooked in most parts of India. With the new mandate coming into force in Visakhapatnam, the move will ensure that passengers, too, adhere to this safety measure following a growing concern over the increasing number of road accidents in the area.

The Visakhapatnam police have announced the violations for those who fail to do so. The fine for riding without a helmet will be Rs.1,035. Apart from that, their driving licenses may be suspended for three months. This step is being taken as part of a plan to strengthen road safety and bring down traffic injuries.

ISI mark Helmet under traffic rule

Apart from making helmets compulsory, the police have specified norms for helmet quality. Only ISI-marked helmets will pass muster in respect of the new rule. Any helmet not carrying the ISI mark will not be accepted, and the use of helmets without this mark or helmets at all will attract stringent penalties. The stress is on quality so that the helmets can provide enough protection.

It’s already implemented in cities like Mumbai and Delhi concerning the compulsion of helmets on the part of the passenger, which evinces how seriously road safety is taken in almost all major urban centers. Violation of helmet law attracts fines among many other penalties in those cities.
