New Delhi: Jeep will announce pricing for its all-new Grand Cherokee on November 11. As the brand’s flagship SUV, the new Grand Chrokee will sit above the Meridian in Jeep India’s lineup. It will be the fourth locally assembled Jeep model after the Wrangler, Compass and Meridian.
New Jeep Grand Cherokee: Design and features
The new Grand Cherokee showcases fresh styling cues previously seen on the Wagoneer and Meridian. The SUV has a seven-slot grille flanked by slim headlights with LED DRLs. Other design highlights of the new Grand Cherokee include a floating roof effect on the D-pillar and new LED taillights.
While the new Grand Cherokee is sold in two sizes overseas, sources tell us that the India-bound model will be the standard five-seater version and not the longer three-row Jeep Grand Cherokee L.
Inside, the SUV will get a large 10.1-inch central touchscreen, digital instrument screen and more dedicated touch screen in front of the passenger. The brand also confirmed that the new SUV will get ADAS technology. Other features will include a panoramic sunroof, leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, a head-up display and an electrically operated tailgate.
Jeep Grand Cherokee: Powertrain
Unlike the previous generation Grand Cherokee, which was offered with both petrol and diesel engines, the new model will only have a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine.
Jeep has yet to announce performance figures for this engine, which will be paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission as standard. The new Grand Cherokee is expected to get four-wheel drive and selectable off-road modes – Auto, Sport, Mud/Sand and Snow.
Jeep Grand Cherokee: Rivals
Expected to be priced around Rs 85 lakh (ex-showroom), according to our sources, the Jeep Grand Cherokee will compete with other luxury SUVs like the Mercedes GLE, BMW X5 and Land Rover Discovery in India. Deliveries of the new Grand Cherokee are expected to begin in select cities in early December.
