New Delhi: We had earlier reported that Honda is preparing two new compact SUVs – an SUV under 4 meters and an all-new SUV measuring around 4.2 meters in length. New media claims that Honda’s upcoming new compact SUV will make its global debut in the second quarter of 2023. It will be positioned below the new HR-V or Vezel, which measures around 4.4 meters in length.
In international markets, Honda’s new compact SUV will compete with the Toyota Yaris Cross, Nissan Kicks and Toyota Raize/Daihatsu Rocky. The new compact SUV is said to be based on the new Honda Fit hatchback platform, which also underpins the new City sedan.

The report claims that the new Honda SUV should measure around 4.2 meters in length, 1.76 meters in width and 1.6 meters in height. It is likely to have a wheelbase of 2,530 mm, which is similar to the Fit hatchback. As a reference, the City has a wheelbase of 2,600 mm.
Honda’s new compact SUV is expected to share engine options with the City sedan. It is likely to get a 1.5 liter Atkison Cycle four-cylinder petrol engine with two electric motors. The petrol engine produces a maximum power of 98 hp and with electric support 109 hp. Its combined torque is 253 Nm. The Hybrid City comes with one fixed gear ratio and three driving modes – Engine, EV and Hybrid.
Honda’s new compact SUV is expected to get the 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that powers the Civic sedan and City RS in select South Asian markets. This engine can produce up to 130 horsepower and a torque of nearly 200 Nm. Power will be transmitted to the front wheels via a CVT automatic transmission.

COMPACT SUV FOR INDIA
Honda Cars India has already confirmed that it is developing a new compact SUV that will go on sale in our market in 2023. It is expected to be unveiled at the 2023 Auto Expo.
This compact SUV will measure around 4 meters and will compete with Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Mahindra XUV300, Tata Nexon and Maruti Brezza. The SUV will be based on the Amaze platform, which shares common features with the City platform. It is expected to share engine options with the City sedan.
