MG Motor India, despite being a recent entrant to the Indian market, continues to make waves with its electric vehicle offerings. In addition to the ZS EV and the Hector SUV, MG has now unveiled the Marvel X, a larger electric SUV, at the ongoing Auto Expo. The Marvel X stands out as the world’s first mass-production model boasting Level-3 intelligent driving capability, showcasing MG’s commitment to electric-powered, self-driven, and connected vehicles.
A Familiar Connection: MG Marvel X and Roewe SUV
Observant individuals familiar with the Chinese market will recognize similarities between the MG Marvel X and Roewe’s SUV of the same name. This resemblance is attributed to the fact that both MG and Roewe share the same parent company, SAIC Motor. Notably, the MG Marvel X is essentially a rebadged version of the Roewe Marvel X.

Powerful Performance: Unveiling the Electric Powertrain
While specific details about the Marvel X showcased at the Auto Expo are yet to be disclosed, insights from the Roewe version are intriguing. The Roewe Marvel X features a 52.5kWh lithium-ion battery pack powering three electric motors, providing an all-wheel-drive capability. The combined output of these motors reaches an impressive 302hp and 665Nm of torque. For those seeking a lower-powered version, a variant with two rear motors offers 186hp and 410Nm of peak torque. The rear-wheel-drive version boasts a slightly longer range at 403km (NEDC) on a single charge, compared to the all-wheel-drive version’s 370km. Both versions share a top speed of 170kph, but the AWD accelerates from 0 to 100kph in 4.8 seconds, 3.1 seconds quicker than its counterpart.
Efficient Charging: Fast and Convenient
The Marvel X incorporates efficient charging solutions, with a DC fast charger enabling a rapid charge from 0 to 80 percent in just 40 minutes. Utilizing a standard AC wall socket takes a claimed 8.5 hours to reach a full 100 percent charge. Similar to the MG ZS EV, the Marvel X features a Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS), enhancing the battery by harnessing energy during deceleration and braking.
Feature-Rich Interior: A Glimpse into the Marvel X Experience
In terms of features, the Chinese version of the Marvel X boasts adaptive cruise control, a fully-digital 12.03-inch instrument cluster, a spacious 19.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system, ambient lighting, leather seats, power-adjustable ORVMs and driver’s seat with memory function, dual-zone automatic climate control, wireless charging, and 60:40 split-folding rear seats.
Indian Prospects: A Potential Addition to MG’s Green Fleet
While MG has not officially confirmed the Marvel X’s entry into the Indian market, the electric SUV presents itself as a compelling option for those seeking a larger alternative to the ZS EV, aligning with environmentally conscious choices.
