Best electric cars under Rs 20 lakh

1. MG Comet EV

A 17.3 kWh battery pack powers the MG Comet EV which gets a rear-mounted electric motor. The motor delivers 42PS of power and 110 Nm of torque. With an estimated range of 230 km on a single charge, the top-up time from 0-100% with a 3.3kW AC charger is 7 hours. However, fast charging is not available.

The Comet EV in Pace, Play, and Plush variants. With a drop in prices in January 2024, the electric car is priced between Rs 6.99 lakh and Rs 8.58 lakh (ex-showroom).

2. Tata Tiago EV

The Tiago EV is offered in two powertrain options. The medium-range model has a 19.2 kWh battery pack, while the long-range variant houses a 24 kWh battery. The former offers a range of 250 km on a single charge, while the latter offers a claimed 315 km, based on the Modified Indian Test Cycle (MIDC). The medium-range delivers 61 PS and 110 Nm, while the long-range makes 75 PS and 114 Nm.

Tiago EV received a price drop in January 2024. The current prices of the Tiago EV range between Rs 7.99 lakh and Rs 11.89 lakh (ex-showroom). The long-range top variant also gets a 7.2 kW home charger.

3. Tata Tigor EV

The Tigor EV is powered by a 26 kWh battery pack with a single front-mounted motor generating 74.7PS and 170 Nm. It offers a 315 km range. Initially, the Tigor EV retailed for Rs 12 lakh. But its base XE variant is now priced at Rs 12.49 lakh (ex-showroom), while the top model costs Rs 13.75 lakh. 

4. Tata Punch EV

India’s most affordable electric SUV at present, the Tata Punch EV was launched in January 2024. The Tata Punch EV comes with two battery configurations: 25 kWh medium-range and 35 kWh long-range. The medium-range variant offers an ARAI-claimed range of 315 km, while the long-range model has 421 km. In addition to the longer range, the latter also offers significantly better power and torque. The price of Tata Punch EV ranges between Rs 10.99 lakh and Rs 15.49 lakh.

5. Citroen eC3

The Citroen eC3 is an affordable all-electric SUV-style sedan and is offered in two variants, priced at Rs 11.61 lakh and Rs 13.50 lakh (ex-showroom). The eC3 has a 29.2 kWh air-cooled battery pack. The front-mounted electric motor generates 57PS and 143 Nm.

The eC3 gets fully charged in 10.5 hours using a 3.3kW AC home charger. 10-80% top-up takes just 57 minutes using a DC fast charger.
