As per a recent news report that has been published by Auto Car, it has become apparent than the Mercedes EQ Sedan is being tested with a new Solid State Battery that can easily deliver close to about 1,000 Km. The First production car that would be using the new battery innovation would tentatively be launched before the end of the decade. So it’s apparent that the new Battery platform would go through extensive testing before being actually fitted to a vehicle.
The battery is being tested in the market to evaluate the efficiency and durability of the performance of the solid-state pack Mercedes Benz has been developing with US-based Factorial Energy.
Mercedes EQS Sedan With The New Battery Innovation
The new battery is being tested in the Mercedes Benz EQS chassis, which has been modified to accommodate the new battery pack. As per Mercedes most of the work went into redesigning the chassis to accommodate the new battery. The New battery pack is equipped with a lot of new technology. The new technology includes a solid-state battery pack which uses a floating cell carrier, which further has pneumatic actuators that have been developed by Mercedes Benz F1 engineers in Brixworth. The new system has been able to harness the expansion and contraction of battery cells during the charging and discharging for enhanced stability and longevity of use. As per the early specs that have been revealed the brand claims of a 24% increase in the range compared to that of the Lithium Ion Battery that has become the go-to choice for manufacturers around the world.
As per the expectations that are being shared by Mercedes it has become apparent that Mercedes would be pushing the real-world range beyond 1,000 km. As of yet, the Eqs version that is available in India offers a range of 588 km. Such technological spurts are of essential importance towards the overall development of solid-state batteries in the upcoming years. Mercedes has sought to shorten the period till the next Solid state innovation with the new Silicon Carbide inverters and power electronics as well.
