Martin Schwenk, MD and CEO of Mercedes-Benz India, told Autocar India in January that “EQS is the first product in the Mercedes-Benz stable to be based on the bespoke EVA (Electric Vehicle Architecture) platform. This will require a special assembly line with new hardware.”

The Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 4Matic will be assembled at the company’s plant in Chakan, a first for the plant as it currently produces only a wide range of internal combustion engine products.

Introduced globally last year, the EQS 580 has a twin-motor setup that churns out 523bhp and 856Nm of torque. It has a 107.8 kWh lithium-ion battery and a range of up to 770 km in the WLTP cycle.
