Maruti Tops Combined Sales Of TATA, Mahindra, And Hyundai In February

Maruti Suzuki India, the country's leading car manufacturer, achieved higher sales of passenger vehicles (PVs) in the domestic market during February than the combined sales of Tata Motors, Hyundai Motor India, and Mahindra & Mahindra.

Maruti Suzuki India, the country’s leading car manufacturer, achieved higher sales of passenger vehicles (PVs) in the domestic market during February than the combined sales of Tata Motors, Hyundai Motor India, and Mahindra & Mahindra.

Maruti recorded a domestic PV volume of 160,271 units in February, surpassing the combined sales of Tata (51,267 units), Hyundai (50,201 units), and Mahindra (42,401 units), which totaled 143,869 units.

The company experienced a 9% year-on-year (y-o-y) growth in domestic PV volume for February. Among its segments, the compact segment, comprising models like Celerio, WagonR, Ignis, Swift, Baleno, Dzire, and Tour S, contributed the most with 71,627 units, followed by the utility vehicle segment (Fronx, Brezza, Jimny, Grand Vitara, Ertiga, XL6, and Invicto) with 61,234 units.

The mini segment (Alto K10 and S-Presso) followed with 14,782 units, and the van segment, including Eeco, stood at 12,147 units. The mid-size segment, featuring Ciaz, recorded only 481 units in wholesales.

For the fiscal year 2023-24 (April-February), Maruti’s domestic PV volume reached 1,607,163 units, surpassing the wholesales of the entire previous fiscal year, which stood at 1,606,870 units.

During a media briefing, Maruti’s Senior Executive Officer for Marketing and Sales, Shashank Srivastava, highlighted Nexa as the fastest-growing brand, crossing the 500,000 units mark during FY24 with a growth of 52%. He also noted that six out of the top 10 highest-selling models in FY24 were Maruti’s, with WagonR, Baleno, and Swift leading the pack.

Maruti maintained a significant market share across various segments in the current fiscal year, including 70% in hatchbacks, over 50% in sedans, more than 55% in MPVs, over 90% in vans, and 22% in SUVs.
