Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) aims to stimulate demand in the small car segment by unveiling a ‘Dream Series’ Limited Edition for three models – Alto K10, S-Presso, and Celerio, each priced at INR 4.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Launching on June 4, bookings for the edition are now open.

Available for the month of June, the limited edition’s continuation beyond this period hinges on customer response. It offers added features like reverse parking and an upgraded infotainment system.

Partho banerjee, Senior Executive Officer of Marketing & Sales at MSIL, expressed, ‘It’s a unique opportunity. Our goal is to provide utility and convenience features to customers seeking them.’

Explaining the pricing strategy, he added, ‘The INR 4.99 lakh rationale aligns with RTO registration charges, crucial for affordability.’

Maruti has further reduced prices by INR 5,000 on Auto Gear Shift (AGS) variants across nine models, including Alto K10, S-Presso, Celerio, Wagon-R, Swift, Dzire, Baleno, Fronx & Ignis.

Banerjee emphasized, ‘We’ve adjusted AGS variant prices to encourage more customers to opt for automatic transmissions.’

In May 2024, Maruti witnessed a decline in mini segment car sales (Alto and S-Presso) to 9,902 units compared to 12,236 units in May 2023. Compact car sales also dropped to 68,206 units from 71,419 units in the same period last year.

The small car market share, accounting for 47% of total passenger vehicle (PV) sales in FY18, decreased to about 28% in FY24. Despite this, Maruti Suzuki, dominating the small car portfolio, anticipates a segment resurgence, as noted by Chairman RC Bhargava.
