New Delhi: Mahindra, for the fourth time in a row since 2020, is launching a new car on the occasion of Independence Day, August 15. This time they are going to launch the Thar 5-door. Before this, they introduced the new Thar, the XUV700, and a few electric vehicles.
This year’s event is going to be held in South Africa, as it is an important market for Mahindra as they have been doing business there since 1996. Currently, they sell a few SUVs there, like the XUV300, XUV700, and Scorpio N. Now, they are looking to add the Thar to their lineup in South Africa. The Thar 5-door is expected to debut in India as well.
The Thar 5-door is an extended version of the Thar car. It will be bigger than the 5-door version of the Maruti Suzuki Jimny, which is another popular off-road vehicle. Sales of the Thar 5-door are expected to start in India next year. The new Thar is designed while keeping in mind large families, to provide a more comfortable ride. In comparison, the 3-door Mahindra Thar is quite small. However, the 5-door variant is expected to be much more expensive than the existing 3-door variant.
Mahindra Thar gets a 1.5-litre D117 CRDe diesel engine, a 2.2-litre mHawk 130 CRDe diesel engine, and a 2.0-litre mStallion 150 TGDi petrol engine. The car measures 3,985mm in length, 1,820mm in width, and 1,855mm in height. It has a long wheelbase of 2,450 mm and a ground clearance of 226 mm. The Thar gets the option of 16- and 18-inch alloy wheels. The starting price will be Rs 10.54 lakh to Rs 16.77 lakh ex-showroom.
