Mahindra Thar Facelift Spied Testing with Fresh Exterior Tweaks and Feature-Packed Interior Upgrades

The facelifted Mahindra Thar 3-door, spotted in transport, borrows styling and interior upgrades from the Thar Roxx, adds practical features like EPS and a rear wiper, retains its existing powertrains

Mahindra is preparing to launch the facelifted version of its iconic SUV, the Thar- specifically, the hardcore 3-door version. While Mahindra has been keeping details of the new updates under wraps, a few spy shots of the vehicle being transported have revealed its final look. These images, now circulating online, show that the new 3-door version borrows several styling cues from its 5-door sibling, the newer Thar Roxx.
According to the latest updates, the SUV will retain its rugged exterior but will feature a revised grille with vertical, double-stacked slats. The bumper has also been slightly redesigned. The vehicle seen in the spy shots was partially camouflaged, hinting at more subtle changes yet to be revealed.

The images further show that the Thar will now come equipped with a rear wiper and washer, along with a rear defogger – enhancing practicality. A reverse parking camera is also visible. Interestingly, Mahindra appears to have replaced the spare alloy wheel with a steel unit. Depending on the variant, the facelift will also feature newly designed alloy wheels.

Interior Updates

The cabin of the facelifted Thar has received several notable upgrades. Borrowing heavily from the Thar Roxx, the 3-door model now features a new steering wheel, a larger 10.25-inch freestanding infotainment touchscreen, and a wireless charging pad integrated into the center console. Additional enhancements include new front armrests with dual cup holders, revised door trims with integrated power window switches, soft-touch materials, and grab handles on the A-pillars.

However, the facelift is likely to miss out on certain features such as ventilated seats, automatic climate control, a 360-degree camera, auto-dimming IRVM, electronic parking brake, and a sunroof.

Powertrain Options

Mechanically, the facelifted Thar is expected to remain unchanged from the current model. Engine options will continue to include:

  • 1.5-litre mHawk diesel (117 bhp, 300 Nm) – RWD with a manual gearbox
  • 2.0-litre mStallion turbo petrol (150 bhp, 300–320 Nm) – 4WD with manual or automatic transmission
  • 2.2-litre mHawk diesel (130 bhp, 300 Nm) – 4WD with manual or automatic transmission

Mahindra is also set to introduce an electric power steering (EPS) system from the Thar Roxx, replacing the current hydraulic unit. This upgrade is expected to significantly improve ease of driving, especially in urban conditions.

The facelift is clearly aimed at keeping the Thar competitive in the growing lifestyle SUV space by blending its off-road prowess with enhanced comfort and practicality. With production units already reaching dealerships, the official launch appears to be just around the corner.
