New Delhi: Vehicle manufacturer Mahindra & Mahindra will not participate in the Auto Expo 2023 to be held in January this time, but the company is going to unveil its 5-door Mahindra Thar on 26 January i.e. Republic Day. But its launch date has not been announced yet, but its sales may start by the second half of next year.

How will the engine be?

The new 5-door Mahindra Thar will use the same 2.2L mHawk diesel and 2.0L mStallion petrol engines that are offered on the existing 3-door version. But both these engines can be retuned for more power and torque. It will get the option of manual or automatic gearbox. The new Thar could also get the option of a 4X2 drivetrain along with the standard 4X4 system.

Dimension

The Mahindra Thar 5-door will be 15 percent longer than its current 3-door version, which measures 3,985 mm in length. It can get the option of 6 and 7-seat configuration. The interior layout and features of the new Mahindra Thar are expected to be similar to the 3-door version.

How much will be the cost?

The 3-door version of the Thar is currently available at an ex-showroom price of Rs 13.59 lakh to Rs 16.29 lakh. While the price of its new model is likely to be higher from around Rs 90,000 to Rs 1 lakh.

Who will compete with?

In India, the 5-door Thar will compete with the upcoming 5-door Maruti Jimny and Force Gurkha. Maruti’s new 5 door Jimny will get 1.5 L, K15B petrol engine. This car has been specially designed for off roading. It will be presented at the Auto Expo to be held in January.
