New Delhi: Mahindra & Mahindra can present its 5-door Thar off-roader SUV on the occasion of Independence Day this year. As the company did for its second generation Thar as well. The company is organizing an event in South Africa between 15-16 August 2023, which has increased its chances even more. Its sales are expected to start in the second half of this year. This is the long-wheelbase version of the Thar, it will compete with the 5-door Maruti Suzuki Jimny, which will be launched in the first week of June this year.
Length will be more
Compared to the 3-door version of the Thar, the wheelbase of the 5-door Thar will be longer by around 300 mm. The spy pictures reveal that it will get split rear seats. Most of its features will be similar to its smaller version. The company can provide an updated touchscreen infotainment system with AdrenoX software, a sunglass holder and front and center armrest.
Design
The design and styling of the 5-door Mahindra Thar will also be similar to its three-door version. It will come with the signature boxy stance with round headlamps, pronounced wheel arches and tailgate mounted spare wheel. It can get new alloy wheels with different body panels.
Powertrain
The new Thar 5-door SUV is likely to get the 2.2-litre diesel and 2.0-litre turbo petrol engines from the existing 3-door version. In which the output of 370Nm/172bhp and 300Nm/130bhp will be available respectively. It will get the option of both manual and automatic gearbox. Similar to the 3-door Thar that comes with 4X2 and 4X2 drivetrain options, the 5-door Mahindra Thar will also get both options. The 4X4 system will be available only with the more powerful 2.2L diesel engine.
Will cost more
The Mahindra Thar 5-door will be significantly costlier than its 3-door variant. Other details about this will be disclosed later. This SUV will compete with the Maruti Jimny 5 Door, in which a 1.5 liter petrol engine has been given.
