Mahindra Thar 5 Door: Mahindra is planning a five-door version of the Thar lifestyle and adventure SUV, which is expected to be launched on August 15, 2024. When it hits the market, it will most likely be named Thar Armada. That said, the details about the range of engines are still under wraps. However, a recent report suggests that the base variant of the Thar Armada will come with the 1.5-litre diesel engine. Here is what we know so far about the upcoming Mahindra Thar 5 Door:

Mahindra Thar 5 Door: Armada Base Variant Spied

Lifestyle adventure vehicles are currently all the rage among high-end car buyers and enthusiasts. Brands like Maruti Suzuki, Force Motors and Mahindra currently serve this niche. However, the Mahindra Thar is dominating the competitive market in terms of sales. To take the competition to next level, Mahindra is all set to launch a five-door version of the Thar soon.

The test mules have been spotted several times and the latest spy photos show the base model of Thar Armada. The biggest clue that this is a base model is that it has steel wheels instead of fancy alloy wheels. 

Previous spy shots revealed three different variants of the Thar being tested together in a convoy. The base model in those photos was spotted with silver finished steel wheels and a mid trim had black steel wheels on the tailgate. However, the latest images show black-finish on all the five steel wheels.

Furthermore, a rear window defogger could come as standard on all variants. Even in the base trim, the interior has a separate infotainment screen. However, it could be offered in a smaller size or simply a simulated area that an aftermarket screen will fit into.

Will Mahindra Thar 5 Door Get 1.5L Diesel Engine?

When the Mahindra Thar RWD was introduced with a 1.5-litre diesel engine, it was an instant hit. Most buyers of the Thar value its design and road presence more than its off-road capabilities. It also benefits from the tax advantages of B segment.

According to a recent report, Mahindra will equip the upcoming Mahindra Thar 5 Door SUV with the same 1.5-litre diesel engine. This will allow Mahindra to price the Thar Armada very aggressively and set a lucrative base price. Since the Thar Armada is a smaller SUv compared to the Scorpio N and features a smaller 1.5-litre diesel engine, one can expect a starting price of around Rs 12 lakh (ex-showroom).

This 1.5-litre diesel engine churns out 117bhp of maximum power and 300Nm of peak torque. Since the larger ladder-chassis Marazzo also packs the same engine, one can expect great performance. Other engine options include the 2.0-litre turbo petrol and the 2.2-litre turbo diesel. The commissioning status of these engines on the Thar Armada is yet to be confirmed.
