Mahindra Electric Automobiles Limited (MEAL), a subsidiary of Mahindra & Mahindra, on Tuesday has introduced the ‘Vision Thar.e’, marking an entirely new electric variant of the iconic Thar SUV.
Built on the INGLO-born electric platform, the electric version of Thar comprises of several features including advanced high-performance AWD electric powertrain, according to the statement released by MEAL.
“Details including pricing and market availability will be revealed in due course,” it read.

Speaking on the occasion, Veejay Nakra, President of the Automotive Sector at Mahindra & Mahindra, noted, “Thar.e appeals to the adventurer in all of us, those who seek exploration without compromise. Aligned with the global trend towards responsible consumption, our emphasis on sustainable materials resonates with the broader shift towards being environmentally conscious. This ensures that Thar.e remains relevant both now and in the future.”
The electric SUV boasts adaptable, modular, and interchangeable components, showcasing an innovative approach to electric SUV construction.
Pratap Bose, Chief Design Officer at Mahindra & Mahindra, mentioned, “While preserving the adventurous spirit and off-roading capabilities synonymous with Thar, we have also carved out a unique identity within the realm of electric SUVs.”

Thar.e’s design charts its own innovative and distinct path while staying true to the authentic off-road spirit of the brand.
The Thar.e exterior presents a distinctive, commanding, and fresh perspective. The sharp, geometric surfaces embody the robust ‘explore the impossible’ ethos, and inventive features like near-vertical windows optimize space and create a strong presence.
Functional aspects such as a central pivoting screen, sturdy grab handles, and a clean layout underscore Thar.e’s practicality for both urban and off-road journeys.
Thar.e aligns with a philosophy where simplicity champions sustainability, featuring fabrics crafted from 50% recycled PET and a commitment to uncoated recyclable plastics.
