In the automotive market, there is a significant demand for 4WD (four-wheel drive) vehicles, with Mahindra Thar and Mahindra Scorpio N.

New Delhi: In the automotive market, there is a significant demand for 4WD (four-wheel drive) vehicles, with Mahindra Thar and Mahindra Scorpio N being among the most affordable options in this category. A distinction lies in AWD (All Wheel Drive) and 4WD systems.

AWD (All Wheel Drive)

AWD distributes power to all four wheels simultaneously, with an optional automatic AWD mode that engages all wheels when extra power is required. Otherwise, it operates primarily on the front wheels, with the flexibility to allocate power based on friction, road conditions, or demand.

On the other hand, 4WD generates more power than AWD but incurs higher fuel consumption. Ideal for off-roading, mountainous terrains, and challenging landscapes, all four wheels receive power in this system.

Additionally, it automatically redirects power to a specific tire if needed, making it beneficial in situations like a stuck tire. However, it is less practical for regular straight road driving.

4WD (Four Wheel Drive)

For those seeking affordable 4WD options, the Mahindra Scorpio N is available starting at Rs 13.26 lakh, offering various variants and color choices. Powered by a 2.2-litre diesel engine, it provides 132 PS power and 300 Nm peak torque, with both manual and automatic transmissions.

The Mahindra Thar, starting at Rs 10.98 lakh, comes in two variants and six color options. It features a 2-liter turbo petrol engine, a 6-speed gearbox, and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

Other 4WD cars in the market include the Force Gurkha, Isuzu D-Max V-Cross, Mahindra XUV 700 AX 7 AWD, Jeep Compass Limited (O) 4X4, Hyundai Tucson 4WD AT GLS, and Volkswagen Tiguan. Each of these vehicles caters to diverse preferences and needs in the 4WD segment.
