Legendary Indian Bikes That No New Bike Can Replace: From Yamaha RX100 To Royal Enfield Taurus

List of some of the most legendary bikes that have ever been released in the Indian market-

Royal Enfield diesel Taurus

Indian market has been recipient to several legendary bikes over time. While All of them had unique characteristics of their own here are a few of the most legendary bikes that have ever been released in the Indian market. Although the enthusiast bike segment in India is now much more expansive than before, manufacturers have overtime released bikes that gained special recognition amongst enthusiasts and buyers. Here are a few of them.

Yamaha Rx 100

Yamaha RX1000 had a simple recipe that stuck such a chord with the Indian users that the bike is still famous even after years of being last produced in 1996. The bike had been produced with the help of technical contribution and distribution from Escorts Group. At the initial stage the bike was built for export and all the bikes were exported from India to other emerging markets of the time such as Japan. The Rx100 was a synonym used in certain markets for the five speed, short stroke 97 cc Yamaha Rs 100 Dx. The bike was originated in 1977 and was then later introduced in United Kingdom and and US in 1974. The bike was then updated with a new tachometer as well as a front disc brake in the year 1983.

Yamaha RX100

A major update was introduced for the bike with a change to Yamaha capacitor discharge ignition from the points ignition that was provided earlier with the bike. The Escorts variants that were sold in India had heavier gauge steel tubing and other specific changes specific to the Indian market. Even after years of production cease, the bike is still remembered for its sheer performance. The Bike had a great acceleration along with a light weight chassis that made it pretty fast for the Indian market. The bike was powered by a 98cc engine with a peak power output of 11ps@7500 rpm. And a max torque of around 110.39 nm @6500 rpm.

Royal Enfield Bullet 500

The Royal Enfield Bullet 500cc has been one of the most legendary bikes in India. The bike was initially manufactured in Redditch in England. Then later the bike was produced in Chennai and Tamil Nadu by Royal Enfield. The bike has been one of the only models that has been sold for the longest production run without any changes. The bike has been in constant production ever since 1932. Although now the vehicle has been discontinued due to stricter emission norms.

Royal Enfield 535 GT

The vehicle was sold for short duration only from 2013-2018. And for Auto enthusiast it was one of the most authentic experience they could have of owning a café racer bike in India. The bike was powered by a 535 cc engine that was not provided on any other bike and beyond that the bike had other performance oriented changes as well such as stiffer Ohlin’s suspension and upgraded Brembo brakes. The bike produced about 29.2 bhp @5000 rpm and a peak torque of around 44 nm @4000 rpm. Beyond this another special Royal Enfield that deserves to be listed would be.

Old Royal Enfield Thunderbird

The older thunderbirds as well as the earlier version lightening were considered to be very unique due to their special AVL engines. These engines used Austrian engineering and hence these as well as the older advanced EVL engine in the lightening are worth quite a lot of money in the resale market. The later period thunder bird also had advanced mikuni carburetors that were considered to be very special. Its hard to find these era models now.

Royal Enfield Taurus

The Taurus diesel was until now the only bike that was diesel powered in India, The bike had a 325cc diesel engine mated to a right hand side 4- speed gearbox. The bike had a neutral finder quite like some of the other vehicles in the range at that time. The 325 diesel engine was air cooled and produced about 6.9 ps of power @360 rpm and a peak torque figure of around 15.0 nm@ 2500 rpm. No other diesel bike has since been released since its production cease.
