With the changing dynamics of the Automotive world manufacturers have started planning the next step into the overall genesis of eco friendly mobility. Manufacturers worldwide seem to be divided between the prospects of Hybrid vehicles as well as EV vehicles. KIA too has been analyzing similar possibilities and has been planning to channel out what new models should undergo the EV conversion or should be converted with a Hybrid powertrain.
As per a previous revelation that was released by Autocar professional, the brand had revealed that it would be working on new Hybrid powertrain options. The company had revealed that it was considering introducing new Hybrid tech in India.
KIA’s New Facelift Models To Have Hybrid Powertrain?
The fact was revealed by Tae-Jin Park,MD and CEO of KIA India, he revealed that there are possibilities of KIA considering the launch of new HYBRID vehicles in the nation. He had further revealed that the brand had plans to replace their diesel powertrains with Hybrid one’s. But as per the insight revealed by him in the interview by Autocar, the diesel powertrain demand in India was still pretty high. Hence KIA had revealed that KIA would continue to sell diesels as regulations allow.
The revelation further led to reveal that KIA has been planning to electrify its existing 1.2 Litre and 1.5 Liter Naturally aspirated petrol engines. It’s possible that KIA might bring in its strong Hybrid from international markets to India. The Korean brand has had a slew of strong Hybrids in the international markets these would include KIA Carnival MPV, The Niro Crossover and the Sorento and Sportage. All of these vehicles have a mild HYBRID Setup, in which the 1.6 – litre Direct Injection Turbo Petrol engine is paired with an electric motor.
New Parts Manufacturing In India
But the major challenge that the brand had showcased at that time was that the powertrain ancillaries had to be developed in such a way that it was cost effective in India. The new powertrains could potentially find their way into new cars like those of new Seltos midsize SUV , the Carens MPV and future Sub 4 meter cars. KIA has had profound plans to slot the new Strong Hybrid KIA model when it would be launched in early 2025. It’s Possible that Hyundai might further use the same powertrain in future to diversify its portfolio.
New Cars Under Development
As per the recent updates it has become apparent that the new cars that the brand is yet to launch would be a facelifted KIA Carens as well as a EV Syros. Its possible that the cars might be launched soon, the Facelift Carens has been spotted testing a few times already.
