India’s EV Sales Account For 7.44% Of Total Vehicle Sales- Upward Sales Trend Continues

A recent report has showcased that the sales for EV vehicles in India accounted for 7.44 % of total vehicle sales number of 19.5 lakh electric vehicles. The new sales trend showcases a new upward trend that the government as well as the Industry wants to continue for a prolonged period. 

In a written reply to a question raised in Lok Sabha, Minister Bupathiraju Srinivasa who heads the Minister of heavy Industries  informed that out of 2,62,07,453 vehicles registered on the E-Vahan portal of the Ministry of Road and transport and Highways in the calendar year 2024,- 19,50,490 were electric vehicles.

The major upwards trends in the EV sales has been witnessed from 2014-15, as per the E-Vahan portal.

Further, The minister iterated that the Centre has been consistently supporting setting up of charging infrastructure in the country. 

Fame -II Scheme

"Under the FAME-II scheme, an allocation of Rs.839 crore was made for setting up of electric vehicle public charging stations (EVPCS). Similarly, under PM E-DRIVE scheme, an allocation of Rs. 2,000 crore has been made for setting up electric vehicle public charging infrastructure," he said

The ministry of Power (MOP) had issued “ Guidelines for the installation and operation of Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure-2024  the guidelines outline the standards and protocols for setting up of EV charging Infrastructure network in the country.  

Further , MoP has also issued “ Guidelines for Installation and Operation of Battery Swapping and Charging Stations "On 10 January 2025, With an aim to facilitate robust EV charging infrastructure in the country.
