New Delhi: Hyundai has unveiled the globally popular Ioniq 5 electric crossover in India at the launch event of its new corporate headquarters in Gurgaon. The new electric crossover is said to be unveiled at the Auto Expo in January 2023. Hyundai has officially announced that bookings for the Ioniq 5 EV will begin in India from December 20, 2022.

Price

The new Hyundai Ioniq 5 EV will come as a CBU (Completely Built Unit) and is estimated to be priced somewhere around Rs 45-60 lakh. This electric crossover is designed and developed on the platform of the brand intended for electric cars – E-GMP or Electric Global Modular.

For the uninitiated, the Kia EV6 electric SUV is also based on the E-GMP architecture. The Ioniq 5 is the first product based on this platform, which also supports the Ioniq 6.

Hyundai will also use this platform to develop several new electric vehicles in our market by 2028. Not only the Ioniq 5, Hyundai will also launch the updated Kona EV, Creta facelift, new Verna and new micro SUV in our market in 2023.

The platform designed for electric cars allows Hyundai to create more space in the cabin. The wheels on the Ioniq 5 are located in the corners, which results in a longer wheelbase and more space in the cabin. This also removes any hump in the middle which further increases the level of comfort for the middle passenger in the second row seat.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 EV is available with two battery sizes – 72.6kWh and 58kWh – and is offered in either rear- or all-wheel drive configurations. The version with a battery capacity of 72.6 kWh is said to offer a maximum range of around 470-480 km.

It supports 800V battery technology that provides ultra-fast charging. It is compatible with up to 220kW DC charging, charging the battery from 10% to 80% in just 18 minutes.

Range

The top-of-the-range Hyundai Ioniq 5 crossover is equipped with a dual-motor arrangement with all-wheel drive that offers a combined output of 306 horsepower and a maximum torque of 605 Nm.

It is said to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.2 seconds before hitting a top speed of 185 km/h. The 58kWh battery has 169 horsepower, one motor, and the power is sent to the rear wheels of the crossover. This variant claims to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 8.5 seconds.
