New Delhi: The Tata Punch has emerged as one of the best-selling micro SUVs, along with the Nexon, which has also been a big hit for the company. The Punch offers a great look, compact design, and an option of an AMT gearbox, which helps make it a better SUV. However, it is slightly smaller in size in comparison. As a result, other competitors have also entered this segment to capture market share.
However, the biggest contender against the Punch is the Hyundai Alcazar, which will be launched soon and has been prepared to directly compete with it. Despite being a micro SUV, the Alcazar also offers a 1.2-liter petrol engine with an option of an AMT.
Both the Punch and the Alcazar will attract customers in the micro SUV segment. However, there is no denying that the Punch has an attractive design, with good ground clearance. On the other hand, the Alcazar features a two-part grille and a boxy SUV look, similar to regular SUVs, along with a wheelbase of 2450 mm compared to the Punch’s 2445 mm. Both vehicles have claddings, wheel arches, and a strong SUV appearance.
Speaking of cabin features, the Tata Punch comes with a 6-speaker audio system, cruise control, auto headlamps, a 7-inch touchscreen, electric folding mirrors, climate control, a cooled glovebox, and a rearview camera. Meanwhile, the Hyundai Alcazar offers an 8-inch touchscreen, digital dials, climate control, connected car technology, and a sunroof along with a dashcam. The sunroof and dashcam are among the first special features to be offered in this segment.
In terms of engine power, the Tata Punch comes with a 1.2-liter petrol engine producing 86 bhp, while the Hyundai Alcazar has a 1.2-liter petrol engine producing 83 bhp. Both cars are equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission with AMT. The Alcazar serves as the biggest rival to the Punch, with similar features. Therefore, the price will be a deciding factor for many people. However, the Alcazar impresses with its remarkable features, while the Punch conveys a sense of being a sturdy SUV.
