Hyundai Creta EV Charger

No details have been shared of the charger as well. Its possible that the company might offer a charger with 7.4 to11 KW capacity. The Hyundai Creta EV might be provided with the same charger as that of the Kona EV. Hyundai Kona which was formerly the first electric SUV EV to be offered by the brand. It came with two inbuilt outlets- one for the fast DC charging and an a another one for the slower AC charging at home. The car had a Type 2 and a CCS port for fast charging.

Challenge With Creta EV and EV’s in General

One of the biggest challenge with charging the Kona or other EV’s as well is that the onboard charger of the vehicle was rated for 7.2 KW. Which is fine for the household charger. But in case if you were to use the fast DC chargers that are available in at stations and use the designated charger provided by Hyundai you car would still only be able to charge at the rated out put of 7.2 KW. To be able to charge your car faster you would have had to use the charger available at the station. Plus charging at DC fast charging stations is pretty expensive which could affect your over all expenditure on the vehicle.

The Issue With EV’s in India

India has a high population Density. Due to crowded areas users often users often park their vehicles away from their house holds. In such cases charging becomes an issue. Beyond that the charging rate of AC chargers used for in house charging is quite slow. While manufacturers have been able to increase the size of battery packs to extend driving range they have not been able to find a venerable solution to the slow charging problem at homes.

Hyundai Creta Interior

The interior of the EV variant would be quite similar to that of the ICE variant. The car would have a twin connected screen. The car is likely to have a rotary knob as well and a few other additions that would make the vehicle standout in front of the normal Creta. The Creta EV would be loaded with new features such as a dual panoramic sunroof, Powered Seats, Wireless Chargers , Android Auto and 360′ camera’s as well. Although its not clear as of yet but the vehicle might get level 2 ADAS safety features as well.

The Hyundai Creta EV Powertrain

The car might have a 45 KWH power pack, the expected range of the vehicle would be around 400 – 500 km. The car would have a front axle mounted motor that would allow the vehicle to have a max power output of 138 bhp and a peak torque figure of 255 Nm.

Although Official prices have not been released yet its possible that Hyundai might launch the vehicle under 20 Lakh Rs. The car would have to compete against the likes of Mahindra BE-6 and The Harrier EV.
