New Delhi: A lot of people buy helmets just to avoid challans, and there are others who only keep the brand or style of the helmet in mind. But do you know how much the helmet you are using can protect you? There are many helmets available in the market but not many people know that not every helmet is suitable for riding a bike. So today we are going to tell you some such tips that you must keep in mind while buying a helmet.
Check Safety Rating
The safety rating of a helmet matters a lot. There is a lot of sale of ISI standard helmets for India. Also, helmets with safety standards like Economic Commission of Europe (ECE), Department of Transport (DOT), Assessment and Rating Program (SHARP), Snell Memorial Foundation (SNELL) are also sold in the market. In which helmets with DOT mark are considered the safest. Although they cost a bit more, they are mostly used for motorcycles with a capacity of 650cc or above.
Take care of riding and bike model
Not every helmet is right for every bike. That’s why you should choose them according to your bike. For example, it is necessary to wear a full face helmet for high speed bikes, off road helmet for off road biking and half face helmet or modular helmet for biking in cities. Therefore, before buying a helmet, keep your bike riding style in mind.
Choose the one with double-D lock
Make sure to check the double-D lock while choosing a helmet. It uses two metal D-rings for locking which keeps the helmet tightly tied to the head and doesn’t fall out of the head in case of a blow, and keeps you safe.
Also check the shape and size
The shape and size of each person’s head is different. Helmets generally come in shapes like round, oval, long oval. Therefore, before buying a helmet, keep the size and shape of your head in mind. Also, it should fit snugly on your head because if it is loose, it is likely to pop out of your head in case of an accident, and if it is too tight then you may find it difficult to ride the bike.
