New Delhi: Force Motors is looking forward to introduce a 5-door Gurkha to compete with the new Maruti Suzuki Jimny and the upcoming 5-door Mahindra Thar. Force Motors is also simultaneously working on a version of the Gurkha 5-door pick-up, which was first caught testing in India.
External
The near-production Gurkha pick-up was recently caught testing and it was surprising that the company did not camouflage it. The pick-up has a double cab design with rear passengers having sliding windows. Like a pick-up, it also has a rear sliding window that allows access to the flatbed.
Design-wise, the pick-up looks exactly like the current three-door Gurkha, such as five-spoke alloy wheels and taillights.
Interior
The pickup’s cabin layout is expected to be the same as the Gurkha. It is equipped with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system that offers features like Apple CarPlay and Google Auto.
There will also be basic air conditioning controls on the dashboard with rotating air conditioning vents. Like the three-door Gurkha, the pick-up will feature buttons for controlling the front windows on the center console, where the gear lever is located.
Engine
Talking about the Mercedes-Benz, the new pick-up, like the Gurkha, will be powered by a 2.6-litre diesel engine producing 90bhp at 3200rpm and 250Nm at 1400-2400rpm.
It is only available with a 5-speed manual transmission. In 2018, Force Motors introduced the Gurkha Xtreme with a 2.2-litre 140bhp diesel engine, but it was later discontinued due to stringent BS6 norms. Therefore, it is only offered in one engine variant.
