EV scooters: The month of June has begun, and starting today, two-wheeler Electric Vehicles (EVs) will become more expensive as the government subsidy on them expires on June 1, 2023. This means that high-end electric scooters like the Ather 450X, Ola S1, and Hero Vida V1 will become more expensive.
The government’s Faster Adoption of Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles in India, or FAME, scheme provides incentives to electric two-wheeler producers. However, the subsidy under the FAME II plan has been lowered from Rs 15,000 per kWh to 10,000 kWh, according to a notification issued by the Ministry of Heavy Industry.
This means that after the adjustment is implemented, the maximum subsidy for two-wheeler EVs will be reduced to 15% from the current 40% of the vehicle’s ex-market value.
Prices for Ather 450X, Hero Vida V1, Ola S1 vary
Based on the subsidy reduction, other popular electric scooter options would now cost roughly Rs 15,000 more across all models. The S1 electric scooter will cost Rs 1.30 lakh (ex-showroom), according to Ola Electric’s official website. Until May, the price of this model was Rs 1.15 lakh.
The Ola S1 Pro, the EV maker’s premium electric scooter, will now cost Rs 1.40 lakh (ex-showroom), which is Rs 15,000 more than its previous pricing of Rs 1.25 lakh. The Hero Vida V1 Pro (Rs 1.39 lakh) would be Rs 4,650 more expensive. However, Hero has dropped the ex-showroom price of the Vida V1 to Rs 1.19 lakh, which may help consumers decrease the impact on their pockets.
