New Delhi: Electric Vehicle: The month of June has started and from today onwards, two-wheeler Electric Vehicles (EVs) will become costlier as the subsidy given by the government on them will come down from June 1, 2023. This means that flagship electric scooters like the Ather 450X, Ola S1 and Hero Vida V1 will now get costlier.
Electric two-wheeler manufacturers get subsidies under the government’s Faster Adoption of Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles in India or FAME scheme. But according to a notification by the Ministry of Heavy Industry, the subsidy under the FAME II scheme has been reduced from Rs 15,000 per kWh to 10,000 kWh.
This means that once the change now takes place, the maximum subsidy for two-wheeler EVs will come down to 15% from the existing 40% of the ex-market value of the vehicle.

Based on the subsidy cut, other popular electric scooter options will now become costlier by around Rs 15,000 across all models. According to the official website of Ola Electric, the price of the S1 electric scooter will be Rs 1.30 lakh (ex-showroom). Till May, the price of this model used to be Rs 1.15 lakh.
The EV maker’s flagship electric scooter, the Ola S1 Pro will now cost Rs 1.40 lakh (ex-showroom), which is Rs 15,000 more than its earlier price of Rs 1.25 lakh. Hero Vida V1 Pro (Rs 1.39 lakh) will be costlier by Rs 4,650. However, Hero has recently reduced the ex-showroom price of Vida V1 to Rs 1.19 lakh and this may help in reducing the impact on the pocket of the buyers.
