EV Policy Extended In Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Atishi has announced several key decisions on the Electric Vehicle (EV) policy. This policy was temporarily halted for the last 10 months due to Arvind Kejriwal’s imprisonment. The EV Policy has now got an extension till March 2025. This policy includes the subsidies and exemption of the road tax for the EV buyers. This move aims at reducing the ongoing pollution crisis in the national capital. In Delhi, out of total registered vehicles, 12 per cent are the electric vehicles.
At a press conference, CM Atishi said key public services, including pension e-projects and electric vehicle subsidies were halted in Kejriwal’s absence. She also said that under his guidance, now all stalled projects, including electric vehicle policy, will be revived. She also added, “Subsidies for electric vehicles bought after January 1 2024 to be directly transferred to buyers account”.
EV Policy Extended In Delhi: What Are The Benefits?
Delhi government’s EV policy includes a 25 per cent purchase subsidy for e-cycles, Rs 30,000 for e-rickshaws and e-carts, Rs 5,000 of per kWh of battery capacity. it is caped at Rs 30,000 for two-wheelers and Rs 30,000 for the e-light motor vehicle. This decision was taken with an aim to switch to a clean transportation and reduce pollution in capital. This policy was first introduced back in August 2020 for a period of three years with a target of increasing EVs upto 25 per cent till 2024.
Reacting to the decision, former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said in a post on X, “Congratulations to the people of Delhi. The Delhi Electric Vehicle Policy is being restarted. Now, subsidies for electric vehicles bought after January 1, 2024, will be transferred directly to buyers’ accounts. Some people conspired to stop this too, but we have successfully restarted it.”
