You must have been to the fuel station a thousand times but have been guilty of filling up your vehicle above and beyond the auto cut off. If you have been you should stop doing so as soon as possible as it can negatively affect your fuel tank as well as the fuel lines in you car.
Filling Your Tank Above The Auto Cut Off
This is a common thing that quite a lot of drivers do. Filling your vehicle above the auto cutoff can cause your vehicle to a lot of dangers and challenges. The auto cut off is in itself is a safety feature that is triggered due to Venturi Effect.
When getting the fuel filled in the tanks of the vehicle the fuel flows through a nozzle, the Venturi effect in such a scenario creates a vacuum that pulls air through the tube. As long as the fuel tank is not fully fueled air can flow through the handle freely, and nothing else would happen. When the fuel tank gets fully filled the air travelling through the nozzle stops triggering an auto stop in the handle of the petrol pump.
Filling Above The Set Level
If you plan to override the auto stop you can fill up the space that is present in the fuel tanks to help the fuel expand under movement. Constantly doing so can lead to increased pressure in the fuel tank, pressure in the fuel lines and can cause the vehicle to develop leaks and other issues.
Often Users Overfill just to get a few more kilometers of driving range, but the damages it can cause in the long run are not worth it. It can damage the seals of your tank and also cause the fuel pressure to rise.
Running Out Of Diesel In a CRDI engine
Sometimes we do not consider the empty level of the diesel in the vehicles to be indicative of the empty fuel tank. Continuing to drive in such a situation can lead to Diesel Pump in the tank draw air. In such a case the engine would not start until the air is removed from the system. So using the last drop of fuel in a diesel vehicle can lead you into great dangers that can further jeopardize the condition of your vehicle. the CRDI engines have common Rail Diesel Injection which can be expensive to mend, so beware.
Running Out Of Petrol In a Petrol Vehicle
Running out of petrol in a petrol vehicle can further lead the fuel pump to draw air in the tank. While nothing would happen instantly within minutes the fuel pump would get hot and might even melt. Low Petrol levels often cause the fuel pumps to fail which can be a very expensive repair for the car owners.
