Just like all the other manufacturers in the mobility sector BMW has seemingly set their targets right. The brand seems to be ready to churn out EV vehicles without loosing their high performance edge. Hence the manufacturer has been planning to launch the new BMW M3 EV.

As per recent news reports the brand would launch a dedicated line up of EV versions of automakers high performance vehicles. BMW M has launched a slew of EV performance vehicles before as well, such as the i4 M50, i5 M60, ix M60 and i7 M70 as well. But the brand now has set their target towards the development of a completely new dedicated M3 EV.

Prototypes of the vehicle were spotted testing, under extreme cold in snow. Possibly BMW might be testing how the EV batteries perform while in the cold.

BMW To Axe The Gas Powered Version?

BMW would not discontinue the gas powered version of the M3, so enthusiasts can rejoice in that choice. Beyond that The Manufacturer would be offering a new EV version of the sports saloon.

Specs and Performance features

The gas powered version of the M3 would possibly use the Twin Turbocharged 3.0 liter inline 6 engine. Beyond that the M3 electric would use a Neue Klasse dedicated EV platform, which would underpin an electric 3 series being developed alongside the gas powered 3 series. The Neue Klasse EV would be seen on new compact crossover soon.

BMW had previously revealed that it would be developing a new quad motor setup dedicated for the powertrain of the M3 EV. The powertrain would feature Two motors at both the axels. This set up would be sued to power a few vehicles and in some vehicle it would churn out close to about 1340hp. But for the M3 the cumulative Horsepower would be limited to 700hp.

New Drivetrain

Each of the motor that is being used would power a wheel individually. Beyond that each motor would be able to infinitely vary the torque distribution as per the cars needs. For the same the car would use various sensors, along with the input of the Drivers steering angle, accelerator pressure and torque distribution. The Drivetrain would be optimized to give extra grip on slippery surface enhancing the cars ability to corner.

BMW M boss also hinted that the car might possibly have a system similar to that of the Hyundai’s simulated gear shifts . The car would also have a completely new interface that would be first introduced in the Neue Klasse series. But as per the reports by Motor Authority its possible that the gas powered version might be axed soon and the next gen 4 series and M4 to be offered with a EV drivetrain only.
