BH Series Number Plate: Is it only for VIPs or can common citizens apply too? Check eligibility, benefits and application steps

The BH (Bharat) Series number plate, introduced by the Ministry of Road Transport in 2021, is designed for professionals with transferable jobs, such as government employees, defence personnel, bank and PSU staff, and private sector employees working across multiple states.

The Ministry of Road and Transport introduced the  BH series number plates in 2021 and designed them for professionals who often move out for work.  Only a specific group of people can apply for the BH Series number plate, as eligibility is defined by the government. Introduced in 2021, the Bharat (BH) Series number plate system was created with a specific purpose. Why was this special registration launched? We’ll explain everything in detail. Before that, it’s important to note that the BH Series is available only for private vehicles and not for commercial ones.

BH Series Number Plate: Eligibility

Not everyone gets the BH series number plate. If you want to get, you must fall under these categories

  • Employees working under the Central or State Government
  • Members of the defence forces
  • Staff of banks and other public sector undertakings
  • Private sector employees whose organisations operate in a minimum of four states or Union Territories

BH Number Plate Series: Benefits

You can take your vehicle anywhere in India without any restrictions. Employees are exempt from the hassle of re-registration within one year. This makes it an ideal option for individuals in transferable roles, such as government staff or employees of companies with offices across several states.

Documents required

Employees would need a PAN Card, an Aadhar Card, an official employee ID, and Form 60 (Working Certificate) issued by the employer.

BH Number Plate Series: Here’s how to apply

  • The simplest way to apply is through your car dealership.
  • The dealership will complete Form 20 on your behalf and submit it to the RTO along with the necessary documents.
  • During the application, you must select the BH Series option.
  • The authorities will verify your eligibility and documents.
  • Once approved, your BH number plate will be issued.
  • Vehicle registration and road tax payments are completed as part of this process.
