Bajaj Auto has broadened its range of Chetak electric scooters with the introduction of a new model called the Chetak 2901 Blue Line. Priced at Rs 95,998 (ex-showroom, inclusive of EMPS subsidy but excluding state subsidy), the 2901 Blue Line marks the most budget-friendly version of the electric scooter yet, undercutting even the previously launched Chetak.

Interestingly, Bajaj seems to have retained most of the hardware from the pricier Chetak variants, opting instead to scale back on certain software-based upgrades and omitting some additional features. Customer deliveries for the Chetak 2901 are scheduled to commence on June 15th.

The Chetak 2901 Blue Line comes in five color options, including vibrant shades not found on the Urbane and Premium models. Its palette comprises Red, Black, White, Azure Blue, and Lime Yellow. Bajaj has kept the scooter’s dark accents for the lighting and black alloy wheels but has introduced new decals on the front and side panels.

The Chetak 2901 comes equipped with a color digital instrument cluster. Buyers have the option to upgrade to the TecPac software for an additional Rs 3,000. This upgrade offers Sport, Economy, and Reverse ride modes, hill hold assist, call and music control, follow-me-home lights, and Bluetooth-based app connectivity.

Bajaj has made changes to the Chetak 2901, including replacing the front storage compartment with open storage bins and opting for a regular key and key slot instead of the remote key fob found in the Chetak Premium. Contrary to rumors, the Chetak 2901 retains the direct drive motor used in other Chetak variants. While the exact power output remains undisclosed, Bajaj has revealed that the Chetak 2901 has a top speed of 63 kmph.

Similar to the Chetak Urbane, the Chetak 2901 also features drum brakes on both ends, unlike the recently-launched entry-level TVS iQube, which offers a disc brake at the front. However, the Chetak 2901 boasts a larger battery pack compared to the most affordable iQube, with a capacity of 2.88 kWh as opposed to the iQube’s 2.2 kWh pack. It also has an ARAI-certified range of up to 123 kilometers. The Bajaj’s latest launch 2901 requires six hours for a full charge, according to the company.

Currently, Bajaj’s latest launch is available through more than 500 showrooms across India, as confirmed by Bajaj in a statement. Priced similarly to the TVS iQube 2.2 kWh, the Chetak 2901 costs just Rs 6,000 more than the Ola S1X Plus 3 kWh. Bajaj, now India’s third-largest electric two-wheeler manufacturer in monthly sales, aims to compete with TVS Motor Company, which plans to surpass sales of 25,000 electric scooters monthly with its expanded product lineup.
