New Delhi: Toyota is gearing up to introduce the highly anticipated Rumion MPV by the end of August 2023. Ahead of the official launch, the company is all set to open bookings for this remarkable vehicle. According to dealership insiders, deliveries of the Rumion are expected to commence by the end of September. This MPV is also expected to make its mark in markets like South Africa, replicating its success in other regions.

A glimpse of glamour: What sets Rumion apart

In comparison to its predecessor, the Ertiga, the Rumion has received subtle yet noteworthy cosmetic updates. Anticipations are rife that the Rumion might come with a price increment of around INR 25,000 to 50,000 when compared to the Ertiga. This new contender will be positioned against tough competition, including models like the Ertiga, XL6, and Ciaz.

Rumion: A distinct identity

Serving as the fourth badge-engineered model between both manufacturers, the Rumion is a collaborative project between Maruti Suzuki and Toyota. Developed and supplied by Maruti Suzuki, the Rumion will be available through Toyota’s distribution channels. In India, Toyota boasts the most expansive MPV portfolio, encompassing models like Innova Crysta, Innova Highline, and Velofire.

Unveiling the powertrain of Toyota Rumion

The Toyota Rumion Ertiga will be equipped with a 1.5-liter petrol engine, generating a power output of 103hp and a torque of 137Nm. It will be offered with a choice of a 5-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. Additionally, the Rumion will feature a factory-fitted CNG kit, providing outputs of 88hp and 121.5Nm in CNG mode, and 101hp and 136Nm in petrol mode. Toyota claims that the Rumion’s petrol variant can achieve a mileage of up to 20.51kmpl, while the CNG variant can reach 26.11 km/kg.

Price speculations, segment positioning

While the official pricing is yet to be announced, it is expected that the Rumion’s cost might slightly exceed that of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga (ranging from ₹8.64 lakh to ₹13.08 lakh). This positioning could potentially place the Rumion in direct competition with models like the Maruti Suzuki XL6 (priced from ₹11.56 lakh to ₹14.66 lakh) and the Kia Ciaz (ranging from ₹10.45 lakh to ₹18.90 lakh) within the price segment.

As Toyota continues to push boundaries with its upcoming Rumion MPV, enthusiasts and prospective buyers are eagerly awaiting the official unveiling and detailed specifications of this captivating vehicle.
