New Delhi: Honda has unveiled the 11th-generation Accord sedan, which features a new Civic-inspired exterior and interior design, more technology and an improved hybrid powertrain. The all-new Accord replaces the 10th generation model that was introduced globally in 2017.

The Accord is one of Honda’s oldest nameplates, and at a time when automakers are ditching sedans, the new Accord feels like a breath of fresh air in a sea of SUVs.

New Honda Accord: Exterior design

In terms of design, the classic three-box sedan shape of the new Accord is a major departure from its fastback predecessor. Like the 11th generation Honda Civic, the new Accord is characterized by smooth and clean surfaces.

The elegant headlights flanking the wide and hexagonal radiator grille have a smoky effect. The front bumper with a wide central air intake is relatively smooth, contrasted only by a silver strip at both ends.

The profile of the new Accord is characterized by a strong waist line and chrome trim around the window line. It rides on 17-inch two-tone wheels as standard, although it can be had with 19-inch units as an option.

At the back, it has a clean boot lid and large taillights with an LED strip that almost runs from one end to the other, breaking only at the Honda logo in the middle. There’s also gloss black trim at the base that runs all the way around the sedan.

New Honda Accord: Interior and features

Inside, the new Honda looks very similar to the Civic and the new CR-V. It gets a 10.2-inch instrument cluster for the driver and a 12.3-inch touchscreen display – the largest Honda has ever produced – on higher variants, and the top variant has built-in Google integration.

The AC vents are neatly hidden behind mesh on the dashboard, and the physical buttons and dials for the HVAC are a welcome touch.

The new Accord also supports OTA (over-the-air) software updates. Other notable features include stabilizer seats that offer more support, wireless phone charging, a 12-speaker Bose sound system, a six-inch head-up display and connected car technology. Safety features include 10 airbags and the Honda ADAS suite of features, which includes adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, lane keep assist and more.

New Honda Accord: Drive options

For the new Accord, Honda discontinued the 2.0-liter turbo-petrol unit that was available in the previous generation. The carmaker now offers an updated 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine with 192bhp and 260Nm on the lower variants mated to a CVT gearbox.

Higher variants are powered by a new two-motor hybrid system that uses a 2.0-litre four-cylinder Atkinson cycle petrol engine. The hybrid powertrain, where the engine and electric motor are mounted side by side, provides a combined output of 204 hp and 335 Nm.

Honda Accord in India

The Accord was launched in India in 2000 and was the automaker’s second model for India after the City.

Honda offered four generations of the Accord in India, where the first three generations were assembled. The fourth version – which was imported as a hybrid – was a short-lived CBU import.
