New Delhi: Genesis has unveiled an electric convertible concept called the X Convertible, demonstrating its commitment to sustainable luxury car ownership. The four-seater convertible is the last of a trio of Genesis concepts that show the manufacturer’s intent on luxury, sustainability and premium technology.

Genesis X Convertible: What is it?

The X Convertible follows on from the 2021 X two-door coupe concept and the high-performance X Speedium concept that was revealed this April.

Luc Donckerwolke, Chief Creative Officer for the Genesis X Convertible, said: “It is a natural evolution of Genesis to increase the athletic and emotional side of our design philosophy by creating an emotional trilogy: the X family. The electric powertrains gave us the perfect scenario to enjoy the outdoors, which is something what convertibles do better than any other vehicle.”

He added: “With the Genesis X Convertible, we have built on the overwhelming success of the X Concept and X Speedium Coupe to further support the brand’s mission to create vehicles with even greater emotional resonance.

Genesis X Convertible: Design

Hyundai’s luxury division says the X Convertible Concept represents the latest step in its “Athletic Elegance” design language. It features short overhangs, a long hood and a long wheelbase that Genesis described as “the classic coke bottle shape” when viewed from above.

The front of the X Convertible has a unique design with four LEDs, inspired by the design taken from the first Genesis models with internal combustion. At the rear, it features the same quad taillights as the X Speedium Coupe and X Concept, while the tailgate design is inspired by the wings and crest of the Genesis logo.

Brake cooling has been enhanced by the use of special wheels with a concave aerodynamic disc, and the powertrain and battery cooling function has been relocated lower in the front bumper.

The concept’s exterior features a bright white finish that Genesis says is inspired by the white crane, a symbol of sanctity and nobility in the company’s home country of South Korea.

Interior

The brand has signaled its push for sustainability in the cabin as well, and the latest concept’s four individual seats are made from recyclable wool fabric. The primary colors used are Giwa Navy and Dancheong Orange – both inspired by traditional Korean roof architecture. A large perimeter digital instrument panel has been integrated into the center console.

Genesis in India

Back in 2019, we reported that Genesis was looking to enter the Indian market, with its first model likely to be an SUV. Although Genesis currently has two SUVs on sale globally – the GV80 and the GV70 – it is not yet known which will come to India first.

Although there is no word on whether Genesis plans to introduce its sedan lineup in India, the G80 sedan was spotted testing here and could be slated for a later India launch.
