ADAS features have been inculcated into cars after a great deal of deliberation and testing. But in the Indian scenarios certain specific functionalities can lead to issues. A recent report that has been published online focuses on how the ADAS features if not calibrated well can become a leading cause of issues and accidents. As per the research functions such as cruise control and Adaptive cruise control can increase the risk of accidents if not used properly.
ADAS Features Under Evaluation
As per the report 28 Safety features were classified into four major categories. Features with intervene in the driving process were considered to be of high rick factor. These included features such as Lane Keep Assist and emergency stopping. These systems that can lead a vehicle into jeopardy while continuing on the road.
Adaptive Cruise Control
As per the research reported by Rushlane the Adaptive Cruse Control Systems were thought to be capable of posing imminent dangers to the users. As per one of the data sets that was shared by the report standard cruise control were supposedly capable of increasing the crash chances by 12%. beyond that the Adaptive cruise control posed a risk of around 8%.
As per the new report Driver distraction was considered to be the major reason behind the increasing accidents. the research considered the standard cruise control to be more susceptible of damages. As per the report such functions can lead to a more relaxed state of mind, compromising the alertness of the driver. Such comforts can cause momentary lapses and can cause the vehicle to crash.
While the findings can be challenged , a better calibration of the said features can lead to increased driver aids and reduction in overall traffic mishaps. A better calibration as per the Indian conditions can probably help the users comply with the new features more seamlessly.
