The Yamaha RD350 is one of the most popular and iconic motorcycles that India has ever seen. Those unforgettable old-school models evoke nostalgia which is why people keep restoring several retro models. While many RD 350s from the past have been restored, recently a shop in Karnataka came up with something different: a tribute to the RD350 but in a unique way.
Karnataka-based company Bossyamakaze has done something extraordinary! A video of a truly one-of-a-kind motorcycle was recently shared on Instagram by Bossyamakaze, showing how they have retrofitted a new Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 motorcycle with a body kit inspired by the legendary RD350.

Modern Enfield, Retro Soul
The behind-the-scenes videos reveal how this motorcycle was transformed. The motorcycle received new handlebars inspired by the iconic RD350, a new single-piece seat, new chrome mirrors, new chrome fenders at the front and rear, and a completely new paint job inspired by the old-school RD350. Interestingly, the bike has 650 and Interceptor badging on the fuel tank and airbox covers but it omits the Yamaha RD350 logos.
The Sound of Nostalgia
Another video from the workshop reveals the motorcycle’s new exhaust note. The motorcycle was equipped with brand-new dual exhausts to sound like the Yamaha RD350. It now produces a unique two-stroke sound. For those hearing this motorcycle for the first time, it will be difficult to realise that this is a Royal Enfield Interceptor 650.
A Timeless Classic: The Legacy of the Yamaha RD350 in India
One of the most popular motorcycles of its time, the Yamaha Rajdoot 350 was launched in 1973. The Escorts Group assembled this retro motorcycle in India between 1983 and 1990 under the brand name Rajdoot 350. Rajdoot 350 was available in two models in India: a high-torque and a low-torque.
While the ‘High-Torque’ variant produced 30.5 bhp, the ‘Low Torque’ model delivered 27 bhp. As the latter’s engine was detuned to provide better fuel economy, it resulted in a lower power output. The motorcycle was completely sourced in India with fewer Japanse parts when its production stopped in 1990.

A Shared Passion: Dhoni’s Love for the RD350
It’s worth mentioning that the legendary cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who is a known motorcycle enthusiast, is a huge fan of the Yamaha Rajdoot 350. Recently, he purchased a customised RD350, which joined the cricketer’s several RD350s in his garage.
Chandigarh-based Blue Smoke Customs restored Dhoni’s new motorcycle. The headlamp cowl, side body panels, the upper portion of the front telescopic forks, and the fuel tank are all wrapped in custom-made British Green paint.
It also features a tubular pillion grab rail, round amber turn signal housings, chrome front and rear fenders, and dual exhaust pipes.
Dhoni can be seen kickstarting his other Yamaha RD350 at his farmhouse in a video shared online. Apart from the RD350, Dhoni’s fleet of motorcycles includes Suzuki Shogun, Yamaha RX100, and vintage motorcycles from Norton, Jawa, and BSA.
