New Delhi: We currently have 23 CNG cars in the Indian market priced from Rs 3.61 lakh onwards. These are cheaper and more environmentally friendly alternatives to gasoline and diesel vehicles. The running costs of a CNG vehicle are approximately 40-50% lower than an ICE car. Even if you’re looking for a family car with a CNG fuel option, there are two three-row MPVs from Maruti Suzuki – the Ertiga and the XL6.

The Maruti Ertiga CNG comes with a 1.5-litre Dualjet petrol engine paired with a factory-fitted CNG kit. The petrol unit has two injectors per cylinder which provide better control over fuel injection resulting in improved performance and efficiency. Setting the MPV to CNG returns the stated output of 87 horsepower and 121.5 Nm of torque.

In petrol mode, the engine offers a peak power of 100 hp and a torque of 136 Nm. The Maruti Ertiga CNG can be had with a 5-speed manual transmission. It promises a fuel consumption of 26.11 km/kg.

Currently, the MPV lineup includes two CNG variants – VXi and ZXi – priced at Rs 10.44 crore and Rs 11.54 crore respectively. If reports are to be believed, the automaker might introduce three new CNG variants of the Ertiga, namely VXi (O), ZX9 (O) and Tour M (O).

Maruti XL6, the flagship MPV of the Indo-Japanese automaker, received a mid-life update earlier this year. The model received several noticeable updates inside and out. The main change comes in the form of a new 1.5L Dualjet petrol engine with Maruti Smart Hybrid technology with start-stop system. The unit provides 103 horsepower and 136 Nm of torque.

The automaker recently launched the Maruti XL6 CNG based on the base Zeta trim. It was priced at Rs 12.24 lakh, making it Rs 95,000 more expensive than its petrol counterpart. With the 1.5L K15C petrol unit and the CNG kit, the MPV achieves a peak power of 88bhp and a torque of 121.5Nm. It is only available with a 5-speed manual transmission. Maruti Suzuki XL6 CNG is one of the most fuel efficient CNG family cars in India. It is claimed to have a mileage of 26.32 km/kg.
