New Delhi: The Hyundai Verna will compete with the Honda City, Skoda Slavia and Volkswagen Virtus, none of which offer a diesel engine.
Hyundai is gearing up to launch the next generation Verna next year. After the RDE (Real Driving Emission) standards come into force, it will likely be the only mid-size sedan in the segment to have an optional diesel engine.
2023 Hyundai Verna: Engine
The next-gen Verna is expected to be offered with a 1.5-litre diesel engine equipped with a variable geometry turbocharger (VGT). This is the same engine that is available in the Creta and Alcazar. The 1.5L FGT diesel is unlikely to be upgraded to meet the new emissions standards.
The Verna will be available with a 1.5-litre petrol engine and reports suggest that a 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine could also be on offer. The transfer options are expected to be carried over unchanged.
The upcoming Verna will have a new exterior based on the brand’s design language of ‘Sensuous Sportiness’. For the first time, the car could get Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).
The Hyundai Verna will compete with the Honda City, Skoda Slavia and Volkswagen Virtus, none of which offer a diesel engine.
2023 Hyundai Verna: Launch
The new Verna sedan is expected to be unveiled in January at the Auto Expo 2023. The exact timeline of the launch is yet to be revealed; however, reports claim that Hyundai has fast-tracked the development of the new Verna sedan. We expect the new model to go on sale in Q2 2023, around April to May.
