Debuting as a supporting role in Anurag Kashyap’s “Gangs of Wasseypur”, Qureshi hoped to create a strong footing in the film industry. She did so!
Premiering at the 65th Cannes Film Festival, both film and Qureshi received positive feedback from the critics. After the success of Gangs of Wasseypur, Qureshi was again selected in “Gangs of Wasseypur 2”.
The film was premiered in the Cannes Director’ Fortnight. She, once again received rave reviews from the critics for her talent. Both movies helped her earn Best Female Debut and Best Supporting Actress nominations.
And despite her skills on the big screen, it is surprising the way the Delhi-born actress has chosen only grim, ghastly scripts. We have seen her thrive as a feisty Punjabi girl in the Kunal Kapoor-starrer rom-com Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana. She was also praised for the box-office success Jolly LLB 2, as a testimony to the acting polymath that she is. Specially, the Akshay Kumar starrer, she fits right in as Jolly’s ‘angrezi-swigging-biwi’ as per critics.
But going ahead, her forthcoming releases comprise some great content and alot of gusto.
Here's what we can expect from her in 2018:
1- Kaala: Huma will be seen starring alongside Indian megastar Rajinikanth in Tamil action-drama Kaala directed by Pa. Ranjith and produced by Tamil superstar Dhanush. The first look poster out on Rajini’s birthday 12 Dec 2017, and a trailer out on 1 March 2018 while the film will release on 27th Apr.
2- Ghoomketu: This is Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s comedy film where Anurag Kashyap is also playing an important role of a cop. Huma Qureshi is lead female opposite, Nawaz. Ghoomketu is an upcoming bollywood comedy film, directed by Pushpendra Mishra. The film features Nawazuddin Siddiqui as the protagonist. The actor will be seen in a comic role for the first time in his career. The film also features filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, will be seen in a full-fledged comedy role of a police officer. The film is being produced by phantom films and msm motion pictures.
