Volvo Auto India has introduced its high performance label Polestar with the introduction of S60 Polestar in the Indian market. The car has been been priced at INR 52.5 Lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi) it competes with Mercedes-Benz C43 AMG which is priced at INR 74.3 Lakhs. The price difference makes this mouth watering price tag for Volvo S60 Polestar a more viable choice for enthusiasts in India.
Swedish automobile company Volvo Cars launched the fastest car they have ever made – the new Volvo S60 Polestar. Polestar, the performance brand owned by Volvo Cars, is the quickest car from Volvo’s stable. The car makes 0 - 100km/h sprint in just 4.7 seconds and is limited to a top speed of 250kmh, powered by a specially-enhanced version of Volvo’s award-winning four cylinder Drive-E powertrain.
Polestar has taken an original S60 and added a bigger turbo, a supercharger, new conrods, new camshafts, a larger air intake and a higher capacity fuel pump to augment the engine; and matched it with a BorgWarner four-wheel drive system and the new Polestar-optimised eight-speed Geartronic automatic gearbox.
On top of this new performance-optimised equipment, Polestar has reduced the car’s weight by 24kgs lighter over the front axle and 20kgs lighter in total compared to the previous model years.
The new Volvo S60 Polestar comes at an unbelievable INR 52.5 lakhs (Ex-showroom, Delhi) a price that will attract many petrolheads.
“This car is remarkably quick,” said- Tom von Bonsdorff, Managing Director, Volvo Auto India. “But it is more than that. It combines Polestar’s 20 years racing pedigree with Volvo’s inherent pragmatism and engineering heritage. It is a racing car that you can use every day of the year, be it track or city roads.”
The first road legal Polestar cars were launched in 2014 to limited markets. Today, Polestar is delighted to announce an expansion to 47 markets (up from 13) and doubling volumes from 750 to 1500 cars. India being a growth market promises to be an important step in achieving the targets.
”While used vastly in different areas, this car shares more than just technology as compared to the track car. The core philosophy is the same, developed by people with the same passion. It is about creating performance that can be used in all situations, no matter if it’s about winning a championship or being able to enjoy a safe, functional and fun-to-drive car all year.”- Tom von Bonsdorff added.
The race car features a further developed four-cylinder Drive-E engine; and the two-litre, twin-charged (Turbo Charged and Super Charged) engine of the Volvo S60 Polestar produces 367 horsepower and 470 Nm. The car does a 0 - 100 km/h in just 4.7 seconds.
Part of the improved performance and especially handling compared to the previous model years is an optimised weight distribution and torque vectoring.
”All changes made to the car are about improving drivability and efficiency. The base of the new engine carries motorsport technology with solutions like the combination of turbo and supercharger, lightweight materials and more. This works hand-in-hand with our core philosophy and has enabled us to evolve the Volvo S60 Polestar.” said- Henrik Fries, Vice President R&D, Polestar.
Other new features on the cars include a new 20” lightweight rim, Polestar calibrated electro-assisted power steering and a new slotted Brembo 6 piston caliper brake disc 371mm.
The sporty sedan comes in 3 colours – Rebel blue, Onyx black and Ice white and is available for deliveries across Volvo cars dealerships in India starting today.
