New Delhi: The criminals are matching RBI step by step. When RBI introduced new notes, within days criminals introduced fakes of the new notes. Now, RBI has increased the printing of new notes by three times, the criminals are doing the same. Huge quantity of fake new currency notes have been recovered from Meerut in Uttar Pradesh.
Acting on a tip off from an informer, Crime Branch officials intercepted an Endeavour car. On checking policemen found fake Rs 2,000 notes worth Rs 1 lakh. Police arrested the two persons travelling in the car, Mohammad Khushi Gandhi and Tousif . The duo was on their way to supply the counterfeit notes. Gandhi is State President of National Lokmat party and is contesting the forthcoming assembly elections.
During the interrogation, the two accused told police that they used to print and supply fake currency notes. They used to supply the notes on a commission basis.
On the basis of the information provided by the accused, many places were raided. In the raids police recovered another Rs 9 lakh in fake currency, scanners and printers.
Both of the accused had been arrested earlier also in different cases. Efforts are on to nab the accomplices of the two accused held. (News24Bureau/PTI)
