Punjab polls: SAD manifesto promises more jobs for youth

Chandigarh: Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Tuesday released his party’s manifesto for the Punjab Assembly elections.In his manifesto SAD has promised jobs and turning Amritsar into a tourism hub.
The manifesto promises Wi-fi connectivity and CCTV installation in all villages of the state. It also promises 20 lakh jobs for the youth of Punjab. The manifesto says that 20 lakh jobs will be provided through government jobs and projects like Mohali IT hub and New Chandigarh Medical tourism hub.
The manifesto also says that the amount for the Shagun Scheme for the girl child will be raised to Rs 51,000 from the existing Rs 15,000. However Dr Hargobind Khurana Scholarship for meritorious students will be raised from Rs 30,000 to Rs 50,000.
Free gas connections to all blue card holders, marginal farmers,construction workers and farm labour are also among the promises made in the manifesto. To add into the acounts of the farmers, the manifesto says,“Farm debts of small farmers with land holdings of up to 2.5 acres shall be waived off.” It also commits Rs 2 lakh interest free agriculture crop loan for every small farmer every year.
Promising effective infrastructure for developing the rural Punjab,the manifesto also promises one-stop shops with daily consumer needs like atta, dal, medicines at lower prices. It also promises 100 per cent sewage, water supply, cemented streets and solar lights in all villages.
Punjab is set to go to polls on February 4 and the counting of votes will be done on March 11.
