Modi cracks whip, criminal netas will be JAILED soon

New Delhi , Dec 12: There is big trouble for politicians involved in criminal cases. The Central government has decided to set up 12 special courts, to deal with cases against MPs and MLAs convicted of committing serious offences. The Centre on Tuesday filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court on Tuesday informing it about a scheme to set up special courts for the quick disposal of 1,571 criminal cases pending against MPs and MLAs..
The affidavit comes in response to SC's November 1 order asking the Centre for a roadmap for establishing special courts for speedy trial of lawmakers facing serious criminal charges. The apex court is hearing a PIL, filed by advocate Ashwini Upadhyaya, seeking life ban on convicted politicians from contesting polls.
Earlier, the Centre had opposed the PIL petition various existing provisions of the Representation of the People Act (RPA) to deal with the issue. Under RPA a politician convicted and sentenced to a jail term of two years or more is barred from contesting polls for six years from the date of he is released from prison after completing his jail term.
