New Delhi: The surprises from Reliance Jio stable have not ended. The company is all set to make another 'dhamaka' soon. The 'victims' of this dhamaka will not be fellow telecom service providers, bu this time it will be the mobile makers. It is coming out with a cheapest smartphone till date.
Reliance Jio reportedly will soon launch a low-cost 4G voice over LTE (VoLTE) feature phone along with its free calls service at a price of under Rs 1,500. News is that Jio will launch two such feature phones priced at around Rs 999 and Rs 1,500. At present, the cheapest 4G-enabled phone comes for around Rs 3,000.
This will be the second shock that Mukesh Ambani-promoted Reliance Jio will give after its free calls, free 4G data offer in September followed by its Happy New Year offer.
It is clear that if these sub-Rs 1,500 handsets come bundled with Jio free offer, then the Jio is certain to record exponential growth in its user base.
Jio’s VoLTE feature phones are likely to have front-facing and rear cameras, and may come bundled with Jio apps like Jio Chat, Live TV and video-on-demand. Those in know of developments say that Jio will also load its digital wallet service, Jio Money Wallet, in the new feature phones.
Chipsets will enable the VoLTE calls in these feature phones. The chipsets are likely to be sourced from Chinese company Spreadtrum, though talks are also on with Qualcomm and Mediatek. (News24Bureau)
